Going to the bottle depot in NW Calgary? What to bring, how refunds work, and Thanksgiving weekend hours

Sage Hill Bottle Depot team

Bring your empty drink containers in whatever bags or boxes you have — you don't need to sort them. At Sage Hill Bottle Depot (70 Sage Hill Plaza NW), our team carries your load in, counts everything at your own counter, and you collect cash from the in-depot ATM. Eligible containers pay 10¢ (1 litre or less) or 25¢ (over 1 litre).

Quick facts — Sage Hill Bottle Depot · 70 Sage Hill Plaza NW, Calgary, AB T3R 0S4 · (403) 275-7003 · Mon–Sat 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM · Sun 10:00 AM – 4:30 PM · Stat holidays 10:00 AM – 4:30 PM · Closed Dec 25, 26, 31 and Jan 1 · Location & hours

What to bring

  • Your empties, emptied. Cans, glass and plastic bottles, drink boxes, gable-top cartons, pouches, wine bags and milk jugs are all part of Alberta's deposit program. The full list is on our refunds & pricing page.
  • Any bags, boxes or bins. Mixed is fine. Loose is fine too. We'll do the sorting.
  • Nothing else. You don't need receipts, an app or an account.

What we can't take, because it isn't part of Alberta's deposit program: cooking oil and vinegar bottles, condiment bottles, syrup containers, cleaning products, containers without a UPC or Alberta deposit mark, and broken or heavily contaminated containers. Containers bought outside Alberta (for example, in BC) aren't refundable here either.

How refunds work

Alberta sets the deposit on every eligible drink container, and we pay it out in full. There are no handling fees and no minimums.

Container sizeRefund
1 litre or less (cans, most bottles, drink boxes, pouches)10¢
Over 1 litre (large bottles, jugs and cartons, milk jugs, bag-in-box wine bags)25¢

Two ways to drop off

Walk in. A team member meets you at the door and takes your bags. Someone at your own counter counts every container and prints a receipt with your total. Take the receipt to our in-depot ATM and leave with cash.

Stay in your car (valet). Book a valet slot. Pull into the lot and stay in the car. Staff take your bottles, usually in under 2 minutes, so you never go inside, and your refund arrives by Interac e-Transfer within 48 hours. Neighbours have left 2,500+ Google reviews, with a 4.9-star rating. We recommend booking at least a day ahead.

Got a really big load? There's no limit for walk-ins. If you're a restaurant, office or event with regular volume, commercial pickup is a better fit.
