Alberta's deposit program pays 10¢ for eligible containers 1 litre or less and 25¢ for containers over 1 litre. Here's exactly what qualifies, and what doesn't.

Is it refundable?
- Milk (all types), cream, eggnog, kefir and drinkable yogurt, plus dairy alternatives like oat and almond milk
- Ready-to-drink non-alcoholic drink mixes (since July 1, 2025), and alcoholic mixers that need dilution
- Not refundable: infant formula (0–12 months)
- Not refundable: soup cartons, cooking coconut milk, powdered creamer, fruit purée squeeze packs
- Not refundable: coffee syrups and water flavour drops

How much do I get per bottle or can?
Alberta's regulated deposit is 10¢ for each eligible container 1 litre or less and 25¢ for each container over 1 litre. Every eligible container you bring to Sage Hill Bottle Depot is paid at the full provincial rate, with no deductions and no hidden fees.
Do you pay cash on the spot?
Yes. Walk-in customers receive a printed receipt and collect cash from our in-depot ATM before leaving. Valet customers pull into the lot, staff take the bottles, and the refund arrives by Interac e-Transfer within 48 hours. You never go inside.
Do I need to sort my containers before coming in?
No sorting required for valet or walk-in drop-offs. Our team handles everything. You can bring them in bags, boxes, or even loose — we take it from there.
What if I have containers from another province?
Only containers purchased in Alberta with an Alberta deposit symbol are eligible for a refund. Containers from BC, Ontario, or other provinces are not refundable in Alberta.
Are milk jugs or juice boxes refundable?
Yes. Milk jugs over 1 litre are refundable at 25¢ each. Drink boxes and gable-top cartons are 10¢ if they are 1 litre or less and 25¢ if they are over 1 litre. Bring them in mixed with the rest of your containers and our team does the sorting.
Is there a limit to how many containers I can bring?
There is no limit for walk-in customers. For valet drop-offs, we handle regular household volumes comfortably. Large commercial volumes should set up a commercial account for scheduled pickups.
What happens if a container is broken?
Broken containers are generally not accepted as they cannot be processed safely. If a container breaks in transit, bring it in and we will assess it — we always try to do right by our customers.
How much do wine bags (bag-in-box) pay in Alberta?
Bag-in-box containers like wine bladders are refundable at 25¢ each under Alberta's deposit schedule. Sleeve-in-a-box containers are 10¢.
Are oat milk and almond milk cartons refundable in Alberta?
Yes. Dairy alternatives like oat and almond milk are part of Alberta's deposit program. Cartons of 1 litre or less pay 10¢, and larger containers pay 25¢.
Is infant formula refundable?
No. Infant formula for babies 0–12 months is exempt from Alberta's deposit program.
